Enkeling is an alias for Symen Veenstra. He learned that most people find his name hard to pronounce and even harder to spell (even in Dutch), so that’s why he uses a pseudonym.
Enkeling was born in 1973, in de Veenhoop. He lived all over Holland and since the end of 2013 he lives in the city centre of Haarlem. He studied advertising and marketing in Zwolle and after that he graduated at the Art Academy of Groningen, Academie Minerva, in graphic design.
For six years he worked as a graphic designer before he decided to become an illustrator.
Some of the clients he worked for are Actimel, Adobe, Blaadje, BNO, Bright, Cast Iron, COC, Custo Barcelona, Defiant.tv, Geldgids, Havana, ING, Vara’s Kassa, Kop of Munt, La Vie en Rose, Maandag, NRC Handelsblad, nrc.next, Noordkaap, OOM, het Parool, Seat, Shell, Sprout, T-mobile, TNT, and YouTube.
His work was published, amongst others, in Illustration Now!, New Typography, Typography Sketchbooks, Playful Type 2, Faesthetic, Ridiculous Design Rules, Ridiculous Typography Rules, and Type Image.
